How to Write a Letter to Your Future Self
Create a personal reflection that will still make sense later.
Learn the approach
A future-self letter is a snapshot of your current thoughts, not a prediction you must fulfill. Start with the date and explain what is happening in your life using details you will recognize later.
Describe one thing you hope to learn, one decision you are considering and one small action you may take. Choose a tone that feels natural. You can write about uncertainty as openly as ambition; nothing in the exercise requires optimism or a perfect future.
Before saving, decide whether the letter contains private information. Browser-local storage is device-specific; backups can help if you switch devices. If encryption is available, choose a strong passphrase and keep it secure because losing it may make the content unreadable.
Future Letter is intended for thoughtful reflection. A future date shown in the interface is not a tamper-proof time lock, and no reminder is guaranteed without a real notification service.
Practice drill: write three sentences: what you expected, what actually happened and what you might try next. Keep the reflection descriptive rather than judgmental. Before saving private content, verify the intended storage and encryption settings for the device.
